The Sturgis Area Community
Foundation (SACF) is a nearly 18 million dollar community
foundation dedicated to serving, supporting and meeting
the charitable needs of the Sturgis area. Since inception
in 1962 with an initial contribution of $500.00 from the
Rotary Club of Sturgis, the Foundation has been improving
the quality of life and advancing philanthropy in the
community.
Though growing in strength and familiarity, the SACF
can easily be considered one of those "Best Kept
Secrets" in our region. We offer a uniquely flexible
and innovative philanthropic service, which appeals to
a broad cross section of charitable and community minded
individuals and businesses. People of both wealth and
modest means find the Foundation provides them a means
to support their community through charitable giving.
It is important to know that we are here for good and
forever. We look to build permanent endowment funds
to ensure that the future charitable needs of the Sturgis
area are met in the years ahead.
Partnering through the SACF as geographic affiliate funds
are the Constantine
Area Community Foundation (CACF) and the White
Pigeon Area Community Foundation (WPACF). Both
funds have their own advisory boards made up of local
community members that address issues of importance to
their respective local areas. The SACF provides operational
support and guidance to both.
One of the best parts of the SACF is the Youth Advisory
Council. Operating as a permanently endowed fund within
the Foundation, the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) identifies
and helps meet youth related issues in the Sturgis area.
Established in 1996 with the help of a challenge grant
for the W.K.Kellogg Foundation the YAC fund has assets
over $870,000. In recent years the YAC has returned in
excess of $160,000.00 in support of projects and programs
relating to area youth.
The Constantine Area Community Foundation also has an
active YAC supporting youth issues and activities in Constantine.
